2 years down, 28 to go!

Two years ago today, I signed away the next 30 years of my life. It was one of the biggest decisions I've ever made. With my investment, I became the very proud, very scared owner of my very own 4 walls, 9 windows, 4 exterior doors, garage, but most of all, one big old MESS! Right away, we began pulling the carpet up to reveal the horrific looking painted heart pine floors underneath. We scrubbed down every single wall even though it didn't seem to make a difference. Every paintable surface was coated with several layers of Kilz primer in the hopes it would cover up the nasty yellow walls. Beautiful coats of green, red, yellow and blue were applied over the white. Smoke stained yellow-grey curtains were quickly removed, and ripped roller shades were hauled out to the trash can. We pulled up thousands of staples and screwed in thousands of screws. We refinished hardwood, and I spent several days living in 2 rooms of my house as I waited anxiously for the polyurethane to dry. We measured and cut tile, crossing our fingers that there actually was enough to do the kitchen and laundry room. I cooked dinner in my crock pot and toaster oven for almost 2 months. We hung cabinets and a microwave (twice!) I cooked my first meal on my new stove, chicken noodle soup, as I was sick. :-) I never knew where anything was. I dug clothes out of suitcases and food out of boxes. Chipping paint was scraped carefully off baseboards, fireplaces and moldings. Beds were dug and flowers were eventually planted. Eventually, the furniture was moved in, and the rollers, paint, sanders, drills, saws, and ladders were finally put away.

Though I'm nowhere NEAR finished, I am seriously very proud of the work I've done on this place in the last two years! I love you, house, and I can't wait to see how wonderful you will look when I can finally say I'm "finished." (We all know that "finished" will never actually happen, but as close to "finished" as a girl can be!)
